'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' is definitely one of those rare films that caught the imagination of an entire generation. Karan Johar's magnum opus is still the perfect antidote to a dull rained out day and fans still swear by Anjali and Raj's love story.
But 18 years since its release, the man behind this hugely successful cult classic, looks at the film in a new light.
Speaking at the Jagran Film Festival, Johar let in that if he was to make 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' today, he would do it very differently OR he might not do it at all.
1x1 polls

'Actually, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a very unusually silly theme. Don't know what the mother wrote in those eight letters, how can a eight-year-old read that? Rahul says, 'Zindagi mein pyaar ek bar hota hai, shaadi ek bar hoti hai', but he himself has fallen in love twice, got married twice. Everything was wrong, but it was written with so much conviction that it made sense,' said the filmmaker.
Karan went on to add, 'There was some innocence in the films of those times, when we used to say pyaar dosti hai. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai had an organic innocence, I was 24 when I wrote that film. But I can't write the same film now. When I see films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, I wonder, why I wrote this, how did I write this and from where did these thoughts came to my mind?'
The film might have had its clich's and weak points, ones that die hard fans would dare to narrate only at gun point, but in the late 90s, happiness was indeed watching Shah Rukh and Kajol fool around in sporty overalls.
